The Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) is an advanced digital border clearance system implemented by the Directorate of Immigration Services to replace legacy paper visas. All foreign citizens, including tourists, business visitors, and children traveling to Kenya, must obtain an approved eTA before boarding their flight, with the exception of citizens of East African Community (EAC) member states.

Unlike the former eVisa system where children under 16 were exempt from visa fees, the modernized Kenya eTA system mandates that every individual traveler, regardless of age—including infants and young children—must have their own separate approved eTA document prior to boarding flights to Nairobi or Mombasa.

No commercial agency or private facilitator can guarantee eTA approval. The decision to grant an authorization belongs solely to the Directorate of Immigration Services of Kenya. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory if you are traveling from or have transited for more than 12 hours through an airport in a country with risk of yellow fever transmission (such as several Central African or South American nations). Travelers arriving directly from non-endemic countries (such as Europe, North America, or Asia) are not legally required to present a certificate, though vaccination is recommended for safari travel.

Travelers can submit their Kenya eTA application up to 3 months prior to travel. We strongly advise applying at least 5 to 7 days before your scheduled departure date. While standard applications are often processed within 72 hours, additional background assessments or document clarification requests can take several business days.
