It is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. With a valid eTA, you can travel to Canada as often as you want for short stays (normally for up to six months at a time).

United States citizens do not need an eTA or a visa to enter Canada and can travel with a valid US passport. Lawful permanent residents of the United States (US Green Card holders) must present a valid passport from their country of nationality and proof of valid US permanent residence (such as their physical Green Card) when entering Canada, and are exempt from obtaining an eTA.
