The Canada Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals traveling to Canada by air. It is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. With a valid eTA, you can travel to Canada as often as you want for short stays (normally for up to six months at a time).
No. An eTA is strictly required only when entering Canada by air (flying to a Canadian airport or transiting through Canada on a flight). If you enter Canada by land (driving from the United States) or by sea (arriving on a cruise ship or ferry), you do not need an eTA, though you must present a valid passport and meet standard entry requirements.
United States citizens do not need an eTA or a visa to enter Canada and can travel with a valid US passport. Lawful permanent residents of the United States (US Green Card holders) must present a valid passport from their country of nationality and proof of valid US permanent residence (such as their physical Green Card) when entering Canada, and are exempt from obtaining an eTA.
No agency or private facilitator can guarantee eTA approval. The sovereign authority to grant or deny an eTA rests exclusively with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers. NomadicMart is an independent application service not affiliated with the Government of Canada or canada.ca/eta. We provide thorough document pre-checks and ongoing customer care.
Because your Canada eTA is electronically linked to your specific passport number, if you renew or replace your passport for any reason, your existing eTA automatically becomes invalid. You must apply for a new eTA with your new passport details before flying to Canada.
